Do you Bulbs Need Replacing
March 12, 2006
When you bought your UV counterfeit detector from us, your sales person probably told you that the machines are incredibly easy to use, and that the only maintenance required was the periodic replacement of the light bulbs.
Have you replaced your light bulbs?
Typically speaking, the average lifespan for the fluorescent UV light tubes used in a machine that is turned on for 10-12 hours per day will be about 9 months. However, this is never an exact science, and we see variations in this from as little as 4 months to as long as 14 or 15 months.
What kills the bulb, eventually, will be leaky seals that cause the fluorescent gases to escape.
Generally speaking, the more often you turn the bulbs on or off, the more quickly the seals will break-down. Thus, we typically recommend to customers to turn the lights on in the morning and leave them on through the day. The power consumption is VERY small, so this should not be a concern.
As the bulbs age, they will naturally lose some efficiency. Over time, they may actually no longer produce the correct wavelength of ultra-violet light, even though the tubes are still glowing. For this reason, we recommend that you change your bulbs every 8 months to ensure best performance of your detector unit.
If you contact us between today and March 15th, and mention that you read this newsletter article, we will give you a $1 discount off your regular price per replacement bulb purchased (resellers excluded).
