Counterfeit Currency Alert: Check the UV Strip
October 15, 2007
Counterfeit Currency Alert: Check the UV Strip| In recent months, many of our customers have reported that they were hit with excellent counterfeit $100 bills that feel like "real" money, and are able to pass the old-fashioned "marker pen" test. This is because the counterfeit notes are made out of real $5 bills. Counterfeiters take real $5 notes, bleach the ink off, and reprint the paper into a counterfeit $100 bill. The security strip is incorrect - instead of fluorescing "pink" as a genuine $100 bill should, the strip fluoresces "blue", as a $5 bill does. The easiest way to detect the counterfeit is to view the ultra-violet feature using one of our UV scanners. Don't go by the "feel" of the currency because they feel genuine. Check the UV strip. |
